Sicily, Italy

While almost 100 million people travel to Italy per year, only a small portion visit the island of Sicily. The "soccer ball" of the country hosts some of the countries best archeological sites, world-renowned architecture, and amazing food. You can climb the most active volcano in Europe, just before wondering the Greek Ruins of Syracuse, all while stopping for anything from arancini to cannolis. Enough tourism has spurred a wide range of hotels, guest houses, and B&Bs but it is not as overrun with tourists as some of its northern neighbours.
