It is tough to describe us or The Roving Route in just a few sentences but metaphorically, we are like a non-Newtonian fluid. We are easy-going, go with the flow sort of people at the best of times, but when things don't go as planned, we have the strength and bond to fight through it. It is this mixture between easy-going while resilient that has allowed us to experience the world firsthand!
We have decided to develop The Roving Route as we believe it encompasses us as a couple and as a business. There is no one way to travel just as there is no one way to succeed or love. That route is always your choice however, how you achieve it is perfect in its own way. We are here to help you plan, finesse, and discover some new routes or destinations around the world. We have always loved road trips so they are a major component of our website and our stories. Whether it be a scooter in Sicily, a car with a roof tent in New Zealand, buying a bus for our journey through North America, or just a simple rental car in Mexico, nothing beats the experience you can get by getting up close and personal with the locals. About Jacki
Ever since I was a kid I knew I wanted to live and travel the world. While I had a few family trips around North America and the Caribbean, my first big solo trip was an exchange to Australia in 2015. Since then I have called many places home and don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
After a few years jumping around I chose to focus on my career and started as an auditor in the downtown Toronto business district. I ended with writing the Common Final Examination (CFE) and passing! (yay) With this personal milestone met in my life, I decided to move on and pursue my passions of living around the world.
About Derek
Travel has always had a special spot in my heart. I was only 10 weeks old when I was first pushed onto a plane -an action that unknowing would become one of the most important in my life. Growing up, I had a huge map above my bed and instead of bedtime stories, I had to find 3 carefully chosen cities, countries or even rivers my parents had provided. With friends, family, and amazing places spread out across the world, my parents, brother and I set out to see as many as we could!
When I hit 18 I went 1,500 KMs east to university in order to attend one of the best tourism schools in Canada. It was the decision to focus on tourism that led me to check in on my first day of university where I met my better half (in both life and business) standing beside me. After a few years, and many trips with Jacki later, I graduated and have worked in a number of facets of the tourism industry over the past half a dozen years. With ever itchy feet, it finally came time that Jacki and I decided to pack up and put our skills to good use!
Our Roving Route
It's been a long road. We met on the first day of University and have been together for 8 years. We have lived together in over 5 cities and made a trip traveling in our converted bus around North America.
After Jacki's exchange, we met and travelled a multi-month road trip through Australia and New Zealand. We graduated from University and moved up to northwestern Ontario for 6 months and Whistler, British Columbia for 6 months. With beautiful scenery around us, it continued to spark our excitement to travel. We bought our converted bus, named Bustang and travelled through Canada and the United States for 4 months.
We were so grateful for the adventure we've had thus far. We decided to settle down in Toronto for a few years in order for Jacki to complete her steps towards the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and Derek to learn more about travel & the travel agent industry.
Now its time for our next adventure, with our Toronto goals met, we turned our sights to bigger things and of course more travel. We hope to bring you along on this exciting adventure, where we will not only discuss travel tips, itineraries, myths, and more. Our plan is to utilize the internet to work remotely. There are hundreds of ways to accomplish this and we hope to tap into a couple and help you to tap yours.
